From the moment I picked up my first brush at 7 years old, I was hooked. Everyday after school, I would find the closest person I could coerce into having a makeover (usually my little brother), cake his face with makeup and make him wear dresses for “fun”. Each time extended family came to visit, my little cousins would always get the complete 80’s look with blue eye shadow, bright pink cheeks, the mandatory red lipstick and a new odd looking hairstyle. Needless to say, their parents weren’t at all impressed!
Ofcourse, life happened. I went to university, worked in several different roles in stockbroking, superannuation, training, management and most importantly I became a mother. Although my love of beauty had to take a backseat to life, my awe of the magical powers of makeup had never faded. I simply loved the way makeup could transform someone, and give them the confidence to be whoever they wanted to be – the sexy temptress, the confident business woman or the sweet girl next door.
So in 2006, during a 4 year tenure in a Melbourne based role, I found myself alone and away from family and friends. I decided to bite the bullet and enrol in a makeup course just for fun. Since then, I’ve never looked back – and it’s been a whirlwind of a ride.
After working at Napoleon Perdis as a makeup artist for 3 years, I decided to freelance and then with encouragement from friends, I started miss julie makeup officially in late 2013. From there, came all my beautiful brides, magazine shoots, fashion runway shows and the privilege of taking a coveted trip to Japan from winning a Shu Uemura Professional Makeup Artist competition in 2016.
I truly love what I do, although for me, the greatest satisfaction comes from seeing each amazing woman light up when she sees herself through my eyes. When she sees that she is truly beautiful.
xx miss julie
